This is what we're about here at The Soap People and what we do not include in our soap.
NO NASTIES
NO SLS's, NO PRESERVATIVES, NO ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCES OR COLOURINGS.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a known skin irritant and it is harmful to fish and other aquatic animals and pollutes our groundwater - so we're obviously not using this!
Neither do we use parabens which have been linked to health issues or chemical colourings just to make the products look bright and whacky. Unnecessary chemicals on my skin? No thanks.
We do use essential oils and plant based ingredients that have known beneficial properties. Basically we keep it as simple as possible.
NO PLASTIC PACKAGING
Obviously no plastic bottles as the idea is to ditch shower gel and liquid hand wash bottles.
We use recycled, biodegradable packaging.
NO PALM OIL
If you study the small print on anything from cake to curry sauce in the supermarkets you will more than likely discover that palm oil is lurking in the ingredients under some guise, but it is also widely used in the beauty industry. Manufacturers use it a lot even in the humble bar of soap - but why? Yes it does create a hard, long lasting bar of soap, but with the negative impact that palm oil plantations are having on the environment we believe that this is not a strong enough reason to use it when there are such great alternatives. Around the world the demand for palm oil contributes to widespread deforestation and is pushing wildlife to extinction.
We don't need to use palm oil when there are loads of other gorgeous oils that are far more beneficial to your skin and the environment!
We include olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and other nourishing ingredients like shea butter and clays.
NO ANIMAL TESTING
Animal testing is no longer permitted in Europe but many of the big brands choose to market their products to China where animal testing is compulsory.
We test on children, family and friends and not on a compulsory basis!
Of course all our soaps recipes have been approved by chemists and are officially registered.
